First Base Home School Association of SC is a Year Round Home School Association

Membership Requirements

      Membership Requirements

    * Less than 3 years  of home schooling experience; and
    * Parent / Legal Guardian / Foster Parent with approval from the agency whom holds Legal custody; must hold at least a high school diploma or the equivalent general educational development (GED) certificate. (The following "MAY NOT" home school your child (ren): Babysitter, non-custodial relative, neighbor, friend, public school  teacher, ect.!) Statutory provisions do not authorize students to be taught by anyone other than their parents or guardians in a home instruction setting. 1989 Op Atty. Gen, No 89-22, p. 60.); and
    * The instructional year is at least one hundred eighty days (180 days)
    * The curriculum includes, but is not limited to, the basic instructional areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, and in grades seven through twelve, composition and literature; and
    * All educational records shall be maintained by the Parent / Legal Guardian / Foster Parent with approval from the agency whom holds Legal custody; and include:
    * A plan book, diary, or other record indicating subjects taught and activities in which the student and parent-teacher engage; (You only have to keep one (1) of these, not all!); and
    * A portfolio of samples of the student's academic work; and (You only have to keep a few pieces of the students  completed work in the subjects  of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, and in grades seven through twelve (7-12), composition and literature, "not" every single thing completed in every subject!) Use of a correspondence courses does not, alone, constitute a school under compulsory school attendance laws. 1984 Op Atty. Gen, No 84-12. p. 42.; and
    * A semiannual progress report including attendance records and individualized documentation of the student's academic progress in each of the basic instructional areas specified above. (Calendar with days attended marked for attendance, report cards with brief progress notes "or" a sheet of paper briefly describing progress/need for improvement in each of the mandated subjects, are good.); and
    * Mail in the First Base Home School Association Statement of Compliance Form http://firstbase.9f.com/eoysocf.html due at the end of your 180 day school year. (No later than July 31st); and
    * Paid your $20.00 annual family membership fee; and
    * Agree to all the terms on the application form and abide by all First Base Home School Association terms.
